President-Elect of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts Ljupčo Kocarev

The newly elected president of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts Ljupčo Kocarev visited the Institute of Physics in Belgrade on Thursday, 5 December 2019. On this occasion, Academician Lj. Kocarev delivered the lecture titled ‘Exchangeability and symmetry’ as part of a seminar of the Centre for the Study of Complex Systems.

The main topics of Academician Kocarev’s work are nonlinear physics, complex systems and networks, electric circuits and systems, information theory, cryptography and machine learning. He received his BSc in electronic engineering in his native Skopje, his master’s degree at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, while his PhD he obtained at the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje.

Academician Lj. Kocarev lived in the United States of America from 1999-2006 and was employed at the Institute for Nonlinear Science of the University of California in San Diego. He currently works at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies of ‘The Saints Cyril and Methodius University’ in Skopje. He has been a full member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2007, and last fall he was elected the new president of the institution. Kocarev’s term of office shall begin in January 2020.
