The Institute of Physics, Belgrade and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade signed an Agreement on Strategic Cooperation at the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, on Thursday, 3 February 2022. Dr Aleksandar Bogojević, director of the Institute, and Dr Vladimir Popović, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, signed the agreement in the presence of Professor Vladan Đokić, the University’s rector. The formal signing was organized without an audience due to epidemiological reasons, but it was broadcast on the Youtube channel of the Institute of Physics.

Addressing the present and online audience, the rector Dr Đokić stressed that the cooperation among the members of the University was significant and that it opened various opportunities, including the improvement of certain aspects of teaching, such as postdoctoral studies. ‘The Institute of Physics, as one of our foremost institutions in the field of natural sciences, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, as a renowned institution in the field of technical and technological sciences, have certainly found some connections and opportunities to enhance their cooperation’, said Dr Đokić.

The director of the Institute of Physics, Belgrade, Dr Bogojević emphasized that the first strategic cooperation within the process of the connection of this institution, as the first national institute of the Republic of Serbia, with a number of other institutions, was established that day. ‘We believe that strategic affiliation of two members of the University represents an important step in strengthening the University, as a unit. Modern universities are complex ecosystems, consisting of distinct and complementary institutions’, said Dr Bogojević, accentuating that there was a tradition of cooperation between two institutions in the field of science, education and innovation and that this strategic association would have an additional impact on its social relevance.

Professor Vladimir Popović, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, thanked the rector for his support to the signing of the Agreement, pointing out how important it was that the University, as an umbrella institution, endorsed the cooperation. ‘Faculties do not sufficiently use institutes. Without the association between institutes and faculties, the University, on its own, cannot advance much, because there is a gigantic capacity in institutes’, said Dr Popović, highlighting additional cooperation opportunities in the ‘Verokio’ centre, which is envisaged for educational-innovative cooperation.

Dr Antun Balaž, deputy director of the Institute of Physics, Dr Aleksandar Belić, a member of the Managing Board of the Institute of Physics, Dr Saša Dujko, member of the Council of the University of Belgrade from the Institute of Physics, Professor Dragoslava Stojiljković, vice dean for scientific and research work of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Maja Todorović, vice dean for international cooperation of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Professor Nenad Zrnić, director of the Innovation Centre of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering attended the signing ceremony.
