On 3 November 2024, Politika daily featured an article on the new Medialab – Science Journalism Challenges programme which is organized at the new space of the Institute of Physics Belgrade called Tavan.
‘If you tell someone at your first meeting that your profession is sports journalism, no questions will ensue, except maybe – ‘basketball or football journalist’. However, if you introduce yourself as a science journalist, in addition to more questions and disbelief, an argument will develop,’ Sandra Gucijan writes for Politika.
The article states some of the challenges science journalists face which were discussed in the first meetup within the new Medialab programme.
Speaking about pseudo-science as one of the challenges, Slobodan Bubnjević from the Department of Communication of the Institute of Physics Belgrade said: ‘In the COVID era, public and media interest in science spiked, which was positive, but pseudo-science quickly took over because a huge group of people stepped on the scene who believed in conspiracy theories rather than in arguments and evidence.’
