The Board of Directors of the Prof. Dr. Marko V. Jarić Foundation has announced the call for the Marko Jarić Prize competition for 2024. Parallel to its release on the Foundation’s official website, the call has also been published in the Politika daily.
Supported by the Institute of Physics Belgrade, this prestigious prize has been referred to as the “Serbian Nobel in Physics” by local media and has recognized the most distinguished physicists, many of Serbian origin, who have worked at world-leading universities for two decades. The ‘Prof. Dr Marko V. Jarić’ Foundation, which presents the prize, was founded in 1998 to preserve the memory of the life and work of Marko Jarić (1952-1997).
The prize is presented to an individual or a group of scientists for outstanding scientific results in physics and eligible candidates include physicists from Serbia and the diaspora, as well as scientists in other fields conducting physics research.
Last year’s recipient of the ‘Marko Jarić Prize’ was Dr Ilija Zeljković, a full professor of Boston College in the USA, who was awarded ‘for outstanding contributions to the study of highly correlated superconducting materials based on cuprates and crystal topological insulators, as well as to the study of superconductors with the Kagome crystal lattice.’
Nominations may be submitted in writing by individuals, scientific institutions, or associations.
The application deadline is 15 December 2024.
Applications should be sent via email to nagradamarkojaric@ipb.ac.rs by the specified deadline. The Foundation has provided a template for the competition application.
The decision on the prize, consisting of a diploma and a monetary component, is made by the Board of Directors of the Prof. Dr Marko V. Jarić Foundation based on the Panel’s nominations. The award ceremony is to be held on 17 March 2025.
