Astronomical Camp Letenka visited the Institute

29. March 2024.

As part of the multi-year cooperation between the Institute of Physics and Astronomical Camp Letenka, representatives of this regionally unique initiative visited the Institute on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. On that occasion, Saša Zorkić and Jelena Milutinović from the organization AK Letenka spoke with Dr Aleksandar Bogojević, Director of the Institute of Physics, and the meeting was also attended by Igor Smolić, Marija Đurić and Slobodan Bubnjević from the Institute.

During the discussion on deepening cooperation, Dr Bogojević pointed out that the Institute sincerely supports the initiative of AK Letenka. The Director reminded of the importance of amateur, i.e. citizen science, pointing out that Letenka has become a recognizable place that gathers astronomy and other physical sciences enthusiasts from the entire region. Recalling that the number of participants in the camp is growing year by year, Saša Zorkić pointed to the increasing logistical challenges, but also to the enthusiasm of the participants and organizers.

After the meeting, the guests toured the Institute and visited Laboratory for Plasma Spectroscopy and Lasers, the Scientific Computing Laboratory and the Low-background Laboratory for Nuclear Physics.

AK Letenka is a traditional camp on Fruška Gora where amateur astronomers gather, and where more than 300 participants stay for several days in recent seasons. In addition to observational activities, a rich forum-lecture program is organized within the camp, in which researchers from the Institute of Physics also participate.

This year’s camp is planned from July 11 to 14, 2024.
