Laureate of the “Marko Jarić” award on RTS

05. July 2023.

The prestigious “Marko Jarić” prize for 2019 was awarded by the “Prof Marko Jarić” Foundation to Prof. Dr. Marko Loncar, professor at Harvard University in the United States of America. The award ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in the SANU Grand Hall.

Although the jury declared Dr. Lončar the laureate three years earlier, his work and the prize he was awarded at the extraordinary award ceremony attracted the media attention due to his inability to come to Serbia and impossibility of holding the ceremony in 2020 due to the covid 19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, July 5, the day after the award ceremony, Prof. Dr. Marko Lončar was a guest on the Radio Television of Serbia’s Morning Program, where he spoke about his work, the significance of the award and his research work in Serbia and the United States of America.

“In my laboratory, we make optical chips that are intended for efficient processing of data transmitted by photons. In order to be able to manipulate photons on a chip, the structures we make must be 10 to 100 nanometers in size,” Dr. Lončar explained in the broadcast.
