Laser surgery of fungal pests

08. March 2024.

Researchers at the Biophysics Laboratory of the Institute of Physics Belgrade have developed a series of experimental techniques and methods that can help solve the problem of phytopathogens on crops. They use state-of-the-art linear optical microscopy and electrophysiological techniques and extend their applicability to fungal biocontrol agents used for environmental protection by replacing common chemical pesticides.

Dr. Aleksandar Krmpot from the Institute’s Laboratory for biophysics, who is also the head of the project BioPhysFUN (Advanced Biophysical Methods for Soil Targeted Fungi-Based Biocontrol Agents) project, financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia through the Science and Industry Cooperation Program, talks for the new episode of “A Glance at Physics” called “Laser Surgery of Pest Fungi”. Our interlocutors are also Marta Bukumira from this Laboratory, as well as Tanja Pajić from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, who, along with the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, is a partner in the project.
