Branislav Jovanić (1949-2025)

Our colleague, Dr Branislav Jovanić, a retired principal research fellow, has passed away. During his long and distinguished career, Dr Jovanić researched luminescent processes in the condensed state and the behaviour of materials under high pressure, led numerous projects and left his mark on the history of the Institute of Physics in Belgrade.

Dr Branislav Jovanić was born on 2 May 1949 in Ruma and completed elementary and high school in Zemun. He graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Belgrade, where he also received his master’s degree. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1990 at the Faculty of Physics in Belgrade.

He participated in numerous scientific projects and undertook professional training in Athens. Early in his career, he worked at the Biophysics Laboratory of the Maize Research Institute in Zemun Polje. He also served as a physics teacher at the Zemun Gymnasium and the First Belgrade Gymnasium, and later taught at the postgraduate studies of the Faculty of Physics.

Dr Jovanić joined the Institute of Physics Belgrade in 1982, where he advanced through the research ranks and remained dedicated to scientific work until the end of his career.

His memory will remain a part of the Institute of Physics.
