Einstein’s nightmare
Guest: dr Duško Latas

Nowadays, we believe that the biggest mistake Einstein made is not acknowledging quantum mechanics. However, he did not share this opinion, explains Dr Duško Latas of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Belgrade in the new episode of ‘The Garden of Physics’. In this diamond jubilee of the Institue of Physics, Belgrade the second season of this popular science video series of interesting science stories which has garnered huge attention on social networks and in the community of popular science fans has started to be broadcast.

In the episode dedicated to Albert Einstein, Dr Latas reminds us that the famous physicist was one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics and that he was present at almost all significant conferences of pioneers in this field, but that in a manner he did not accept or understood it.

In the episode titled ‘Einstein’s nightmare,’ Dr Latas talks about Einstein’s major achievements as well as about blunders he had made during life – how he perceived the Universe, gravitational waves and the theory of everything Einstein had long tried to develop.

The series ‘The Garden of Physics’ was launched by the Institue of Physics, Belgrade inspired by the concept of popular IPB forums which, before the pandemic broke out, had brought together a large audience at the big hall of the Students’ Cultural Centre. Realized in cooperation with the portal ’Science Through Stories’, each episode of ’The Garden of Physics’ is dedicated to one of the fundamental topics of modern science. Instead of being in front of an audience, we now talk with physicists and other researchers in the Garden of the Institute, on the banks of the Danube in Zemun.
