Selected projects

The Institute is one of the most active and successful scientific research institutions in Serbia in terms of the number of international projects, and at the same time it is one of the most successful in the country in terms of the number of national projects.

ERC GRANT

“SCLoTHiFi – Numerically exact theory of transport in strongly correlated systems at low temperature and under magnetic fields”

The third ERC grant in the history of Serbian science was awarded to Dr. Jakša Vučičević for research in complex systems that could bring about tectonic changes in the investigation of high-temperature superconductors and other important but unsolved issues of solid state physics. This research grant “SCLoTHiFi – Numerically exact theory of transport in strongly correlated systems at low temperature and under magnetic fields” is the biggest individual success of researchers in science in Serbia in the last 5 years.

Prestigious ERC grants are awarded by the European Research Council, and the most important criterion for candidate evaluation is scientific excellence. The grant won by Dr. Jakša Vučičević is the third ERC grant that has arrived in Serbia, and the second to the Institute of Physics Belgrade. In the previous decade, ERC grants were won by Dr. Sofija Stefanović from the Faculty of Philosophy, and by Dr. Magdalena Đorđević from the Institute of Physics Belgrade.

TWINNING

“Twinning for excellence of the Serbian Research center for quantum biophotonics”

The Institute of Physics Belgrade won the Twinning project “Twinning for excellence of the Serbian Research center for quantum biophotonics”, which, over the next three years, will be implemented in the Center for Photonics, one of the Institute’s centers of excellence.

Twinning is a prestigious European Union program that promotes research excellence through networking and training within the Horizon Europe program. The idea is to strengthen the institution through the exchange of experience and expertise with leading European scientific organizations. The Institute of Physics Belgrade’s partners in this project are the “Friedrich Schiller” University in Jena, the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Faculty of Biology of the University of Belgrade.
