Marten Boonekamp

26. April 2022.

Our guest at the Institute of Physics on November 20 was Dr. Maarten Boonekamp from DSM/IRFU – Institut de Recherches sur les Lois Fondamentales de l’Univers; CEA Saclay – Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, Gif-sur-Yvette, France.

The talk was entitled: “Electroweak symmetry breaking up to the LHC”.

ABSTRACT:

Among the most precise predictions of the Standard Model is the relation between the masses of the Higgs boson, of the top quark and of the electroweak gauge bosons, the Z and the W. After a brief introduction, in this talk we will review the slow but steady progress in testing this prediction, summarizing the results of the SppS, LEP, Tevatron and LHC experiments from a historical perspective.
