Goran Stanišić (1952-2020)

26. April 2022.

Goran Stanišić, a retired principal research fellow of the Institute of Physics, passed away on 25 January 2020, at the age of 67.

He was born on 23 April 1952 in Belgrade, where he completed eight years of primary education and graduated from a gymnasium. He received his BSc from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in 1977, his MSc in 1979 and PhD in 1985 in the field of materials science at the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research of the University of Belgrade.

He was employed at the Institute of Physics, Belgrade from 1978 until 1980, and from 1986 till his retirement in 2017. In the period 1980-1986, he worked at the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy of the University of Belgrade. He was appointed principal research fellow in 2003, while in 2001 he was appointed full professor of ‘Technology of Materials’ course at the Academy for Arts and Conservation of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade.

Dr Goran Stanišić published over 100 scientific papers in eminent international and domestic journals which have been cited more than 300 times. He was awarded ‘Nikola Tesla’ Award in 1989 for his scientific accomplishment ‘Synthesis and Characterization of High-Temperature Superconducting Materials’.

Dr Goran Stanišić’s scientific activities were focused on the research in the field of fundamental sciences, particularly in the field of the physics of materials, and during his work he studied the problem of sintering process of nonstoichiometric oxides, synthesis and structural analysis of intercalary compounds, physics of porous glass and new sol-gel technologies (organic glass).

Dr Goran Stanišić was a pioneer in the development of high-temperature superconducting materials and methods for their characterization in our country. With his departure, Materials Science field in Serbia has lost one of its most valued members.
