As part of the 32nd Summer School and International Symposium on the Physics of Ionized Gases – SPIG 2024, a workshop titled LIBS4fusion was held on Monday, 26 August, at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Organized by the Institute of Physics Belgrade, this workshop featured a series of lectures dedicated to fusion, a clean energy technology. The workshop opened with a lecture titled ‘Fusion: From Science Fiction to Science Fact’ by Radomír Pánek, General Assembly Chair of EUROfusion
Various researchers from domestic and foreign institutions participated in the conference, such as representatives from the National Institute for Laser, Plasma & Radiation Physics, INFLPR Romania, Agenzia Nazionale per le Nuove Tecnologie, ENEA Frascati Rome, Italy, Vinča Nuclear Institute, Faculty of Physical Chemistry at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the University of Kragujevac and the Institute of Physics Belgrade.
The Science Fund supported the workshop through the NOVA2LIBS4fusion (Novel approach to laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy diagnostics of fusion reactor plasma-facing components) project led by project leader Dr Milivoje Ivković, a principal research fellow at the Institute of Physics Belgrade. Dr M. Ivković is simultaneously a member of the Scientific Committee of the SPIG 2024 Conference and the President of the Organizational Board of the workshop.
