On Tuesday, 19 November, two researchers from the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Dr Magdalena Đorđević and Dr Antun Balaž, were introduced as newly elected SASA corresponding members at the ceremonial session marking the Day of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Academician Branislav Jelenković, also from the Institute, who has been elected a SASA full member, will officially receive his promotion following the delivery of his accession speech, in accordance with SASA traditions.
’Not only was the Academy strengthened by a larger number of new members than in several previous election cycles, but the number of the newly elected members has surpassed the number of our renowned researchers and artists who have left us forever in between two election years, which I am convinced, will lead to stopping the trend of reduction of our already proportionally ‘small’ Academy, reinvigorate this distinguished house and provide it with fresh energy for greater success in fulfilling its scientific, artistic, cultural, and societal roles,’ said in his welcome speech SASA President Academician Zoran Knežević.
In SASA’s regular elections for new members, three researchers of the Institute of Physics were elected SASA members. Dr Branislav Jelenković who had been a SASA corresponding member was elected a SASA full member. Additionally, Dr Magdalena Đorđević and Dr Antun Balaž joined SASA as corresponding members.
Dr Aleksandar Bogojević, director of the Institute of Physics Belgrade, extended his congratulations to Academician Branislav Jelenković and SASA Corresponding Members Dr Magdalena Đorđević and Dr Antun Balaž on their remarkable achievements. Dr Bogojević also expressed his expectations that their new role would strengthen the SASA work and contribute to physics’ advancement within the institution.
