Dr Ana Hudomal of the Institute of Physics Belgrade was announced as one of three recipients of the national scholarship ‘For Women in Science’ for 2024, at the ceremony at the seat of the Government of the Republic of Serbia on 24 December 2024.

Dr Ana Hudomal’s research focuses on complex systems, with a particular emphasis on quantum multiparticle scars. She participated in a number of national and international projects and has been a team member of the Centre for the Study of Complex Systems of the Institute of Physics Belgrade.

According to Tanjug, the award includes a grant of €5,000 to support research projects. L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Programme has promoted women in science for 26 years, and according to Dr Jelena Begović, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovations, there are 4400 female awardees across the globe, seven of which have gone on to receive the Nobel Prize.

In Serbia, the program was launched in 2010, and since then, 40 female researchers have been honoured. The scholarships are granted to women scientists under 35 years of age who are pursuing or have completed doctoral or post-doctoral studies in the field of natural sciences.

This year, 68 applications were submitted during the competition call, and three candidates were traditionally awarded. They are as follows: Dr Ana Hudomal of the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Dr Milka Malešević of the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering and Sandra Veljković of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Niš.
